Handle with Karo's Mother's Day Gift Guide 2014

Mother's Day is two weeks from yesterday.   HwK's suggestions.

SOMETHING SWEET

Dragonfly Cakes' Mother's Day petitfours
Dragonfly Cakes' petits fours! I know people are all about macaroons and cupcakes, but petits fours are a perfect gift. They are tiny, pretty and can last about a week.

SOMETHING FRAGRANT

Kids are lovely but they can sure be stinky, give the Mom in your life flowers or perfume.

As for flowers, why not go for something that you know has staying power, like a bouquet or wreath of lavender. You can find lavender at your florist, local farmer's market, or at Paula Jean's Garden on Etsy.

Jo Malone's fragrances are fresh and they also come in great 30 ML bottles, so you can travel with them and don't have to commit to one sent for too long. My two favorites are Lime, Basil & Mandarin and her Pomegranate Noir.

SOMETHING PERSONALIZED

Giving Mom something just for her ensures there's no confusion of who the gift is for (very important for the Mother of a teenager or tween). I love these Claire Vivier items from Goop.

And just because Mom isn't sleeping doesn't mean she can't have cute monogrammed PJ's. Check out JCrew's monogrammed PJ's. This drawstring PJ short set is super cute. There other great options that can be monogrammed, this long nightshirt here and and this pants set here.

SOMETHING RELAXING (The Best Gift of All)

I'm not talking about taking her out for lunch or drinks. I'm talking about letting her sleep to her heart's content.

There are many Mom's out there that would love a day when they can sleep till about 11 am and then have the opportunity to do something for herself and by herself (say a yoga class or a manicure), followed by an afternoon of couch surfing and maybe even a bubble bath. So if you can provide her with some high-quality childcare, this gift might just trump any other material gift. Unless of course she's enjoying her day of serenity in her new monogramed pajamas, while sniffing her lavendar bouquet over a plate of petits fours.
